Joseph T. Simonson Sr.

Joseph T. Simonson, Sr., 85, of Nashua, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a strong and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Joseph was born in Boston, MA, on April 19, 1929, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Matthews) Simonson. He was the widower of Constance Ray (Nicolini) Simonson who died June 14, 2009, after 53 years of marriage. He grew up in Revere, Massachusetts, and was 1948 graduate of Revere High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952.

While living in Massachusetts, Joseph owned and operated a television repair shop. He moved to Nashua in 1964 and worked for the Department of Transportation with the FAA for 30 years. Following his retirement, Joseph worked with his son, Dr. Joseph Simonson. He also was the Director of Development with Mount St. Mary Seminary H.S and with the Diocese of Manchester.

Joseph was a very active member of the Infant Jesus Church Community serving on the Parish Council and as the CYO Youth Group Leader for over 30 years. He developed youth retreats throughout the state and was also actively involved in developing Cursillo retreats for adults. He was a Nashua Rotarian and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Joe loved to sail and spend time with his extended family and friends on Balch Lake. He loved his Massachusetts Dr. community and all of the lifelong friends he made there. Joseph was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Rupp.

Joseph is survived by three daughters, Patricia Pelletier of Nashua, Jane Lyttle and her husband Jeffrey of Milford, and Janet Zalenski of Milford; two sons, Dr. Joseph Simonson Jr. of Merrimack, and James Simonson and his wife Maureen of Falls Church, VA; sixteen grandchildren, Kerrie Muchemore and her husband Michael who lovingly cared for him over the past 5 years, Kristen Whigham and her husband Andrew, Jeffrey Pelletier, Tom Pelletier, Jr. and his wife Katie, Joselyne Simonson, Duncan Simonson and his wife Ana, Brenna Simonson, Keo Simonson, Hunter Simonson, Parker Lyttle, Kayley Lyttle, Owen Zalenski, Caden Zalenski, Alexandra Simonson, Lauren Simonson and J. Michael Simonson, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Raye Muchemore, Michael Muchemore, Ashley Lavoie and her husband Jon, Lauren Muchemore, Meghan Muchemore, Abigail Raye Whigham, Gavin Whigham and Licoln Pelletier; two great-
great-grandchildren, Corey Lavoie and Hayley Lavoie; two brothers, William Simonson and his wife Myrna of Bellingham, MA, and Peter Simonson and his wife Candice of Pembroke, MA; one sister, Margaret Pepe of Massachusetts; two sisters-
in-law, Florence Boudreau of Nashua and Paula DeCain and her husband William of Revere, MA; and one brother-in-law, Dominic Parro of Melrose, MA.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014, from 4-8 P.M. at Anctil-Rochette & Son Funeral Home, 21 Kinsley St., Nashua NH 03060. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 10, 2014, in Blessed John XXIII at Infant Jesus Church at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joseph Simonson may be made to St. Joseph Hospital, 172 Kinsley St. PO BOX 2013, Nashua, NH 03060.
