John E. Vinsel

John E. Vinsel, Lieutenant Commander, retired US Navy, 90, passed away on Wednesday November 26, 2014 Southern NH Medical Center.

John was born in Oxford, MS on September 17, 1924, a son of the late Kenneth P. and Willie (Powell) Vinsel. He was the husband of Carolyn (Coletta) Vinsel of Mont Vernon, NH.

John was a resident of Mont Vernon, NH for the past 20 years and a resident of New Hampshire since 1967. John had been raised in Louisville, KY, graduating from Philips Academy, Andover in 1943, and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1948 serving in the United States Navy until retiring in 1967. John worked at Sanders Associates in Nashua from 1967 until 1984. After retiring from Sanders Associates, he began his third career teaching History at the University of New Hampshire and Notre Dame College in Manchester until 2002. John had a passion for playing chess and he was a member of the Nashua Chess Club in the 1970’s. John was devoted to his family and most enjoyed spending time with them, especially his wife. He was predeceased by his first wife of 30 years, Marie (Grace) Vinsel who died in 1983 and a brother; Paul K. Vinsel.

Besides his wife, John is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Readio and her husband Rick Steeves of Boulder, CO, Elizabeth Looney and her husband Kevin of Sunnyvale, CA and Anne T. Vinsel of South Hamilton, MA; five sons, John P. Vinsel and his wife Nancy of Louisville, KY, Mark Vinsel and his wife Dianne Anderson of Juno, AK, Paul Vinsel and his wife Lisa Daigle of Saratoga Springs, NY, Peter Vinsel and his wife Lois of Berkeley, CA and Michael Vinsel and his wife Shizaka Sakaburo of Nagoya, Japan; two stepsons, Keith Gallant and Eric Gallant and his wife Sabrina Longo-Gallant; twelve grandchildren, Margaret, Ramona, Sean, Ashley, Aaron, Amelia, Darius, Carmen, Samuel, Ashley Burke and her husband Daniel, Samantha and Lillian; one sister, Barbara Tallman and her husband George of McKinney, TX; a sister-in-law, Adele Vinsel of Louisville, KY; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday December 3, 2014 in the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, 4 South Main St., Mont Vernon, NH, at 11:00 AM. Everyone was invited to meet at the church for 10:00 AM. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 8401, POB 10144 Bedford, NH 03110.
