Nolan T. Jones

Nolan T. Jones, age 88, of Sacramento CA, formerly a resident of Mil­ford and Amherst, passed away on July 14, 2015.

Born in Manhattan KS, Nolan served in the US Navy during the final months of WWII. Nolan earned a BS from the University of Nebraska and an MS from the Mas­sachusetts Insti­tute of Technology, both in Electrical Engineering, and he worked for Mitre Cor­poration in Bedford MA his entire career. Nolan was especially proud of being involved in early computers, including the Whirlwind at MIT.

He married Beverly M. McCoy, of Minneapolis, MN, who predeceased him in 1981. Subsequently, No­lan married Joan Lloyd Borum, with whom he en­joyed Democratic politics and exploring historic canals of Europe, Canada and the US. While in Mil­ford and Amherst (1993- 2010), he was active in the Unitarian Universalist Church, NH Democratic politics and the Middlesex Canal Association.

Nolan was an Eagle Scout and was very active in the Boy Scouts of Ameri­ca in various capacities for 50 years, earning the Silver Beaver award for distin­guished service. Nolan’s interests included bridge, camping, conserva­tion, historic canal preservation and tinkering with elec­tronics.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; her children, Christo­pher Borum (Mi­chelle) of Minne­apolis MN, Owen Borum (Jennifer) of Boul­der CO; and three step-grandchildren; and his children, Susan Jones (Da­vid Wright) of Sacramento CA, Nolan T. Jones Jr. of Mt. Carmel UT, and Cyn­thia Jones (Fred LaPlante) of Woodinville WA; as well as his grandson Galen.
