Mary E. Leavitt

LYNDEBOROUGH, NH: Mary E. Leavitt, 72, long­time resident of Lynde­borough, NH died on Sun­day, September 20, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH after period of de­clining health.

Born on August 28, 1943, in Nash­ua, NH, a daughter of the late John and Muriel (Scott) Hyde. She was raised in Hollis and Temple, NH, gradu­ating from the Appleton Academy in New Ipswich, NH, in 1961. Following graduation, Mary went on to attend schooling at the New Hampshire College of Accounting and Com­merce, graduating in 1963. Following her school­ing she worked for many years at Abbot Machine in Wilton, NH.

Mary married Milton "Skeeter" Leavitt Sr. on May 28, 1966 in Lyndebor­ough, NH.

Mary volunteered for over 30 years as first an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and later an EMT-I (Emergency Medi­cal Technician – Inter­mediate) for the Wilton- Lyndeborough Temple Ambulance Service. She served her community not only as an EMT but also by attending and graduat­ing from St. Joseph Hos­pital School of Nursing in 1987. She worked for many years at the Monad­nock Community Hospital after nursing school. Mary also taught for many years as a First Aid and CPR in­structor.

She also held other town positions, these in­cluded: Health Officer for the towns of Wilton and Lyndeborough and Police Department Matron for both Wilton and Lynde­borough.

When Mary wasn’t do­nating her time to her community she used her "spare" time to enjoy hob­bies such as, Ladies Li­brary of Lyndeborough, Red Hat Society, reading, Facebook, her family and just talking with people at the Village Store.

She will be truly missed by all who knew her or ever had the privilege to chat with her for even a short second or two.

In addition to her par­ents, Mary was prede­ceased by her loving hus­band, Skeeter, in 1985, a son, James Leavitt in December 1978 and a brother John "Jack" Hyde Jr.

Survivors in­clude son, Milton "Mickey" Leavitt Jr. of Lyndebor­ough, NH; daugh­ter and son-in-law, Ellen and Seamus Grossman of Wilton, NH; brother, George Hyde of Rochester, NH; sisters, Joan Hyde of Lyndebor­ough, NH, Ruth Lambert of Peterborough, NH, Anne Amlaw of Keene, NH; favorite niece, Jackie Smith of Lyndeborough, NH; and many more niec­es, nephews, cousins and countless friends who Mary always considered family.

Services: Calling Hours will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the United Church of Lyndeborough, 1139 Center Road, Lynde­borough, NH. Burial will follow in the family lot, South Cemetery, Lynde­borough, NH.

All emergency service personnel are asked to wear either Class A uni­forms or duty uniforms to the wake and funeral ser­vice.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Mary to the Wilton-Lyndeborough Ambulance Association c/o David Gill – for pur­chasing CPR training sup­plies.
