Dorothy Jane Johnson

Dorothy Jane Johnson, longtime former resi­dent of Amherst, 87, died October 31, 2015 peace­fully at a nursing home in Vero Beach, Florida after a 7-year battle with Al­zheimer’s Disease.

Dorothy was born March 8, 1928, in St. Albans, New York, and moved to Am­herst in 1965.

A devoted mother of five sons and one daugh­ter, Dorothy worked tire­lessly as a full-time moth­er to her children, while pursuing passions that included tennis, paddle tennis and working for the League of Women Vot­ers of New Hampshire. She also created and coached the girl’s ten­nis team at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary High School in Nashua.

Later, after her chil­dren went off to college, Dorothy became a fash­ion buyer for McQuade’s Department Store in Manchester.

She was known for her grace and beauty, both inside and out, and for her wonderful laugh and smile.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Mat­thew, and her husband of 55-years, William "Bill" Johnson. She is survived by sons, Patrick, Michael, Corry, Tony; daughter, Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Tammy; and grandchil­dren, Ciarra Johnson, Emma Johnson, Will and Ben Johnson, Katie and Doug Letheren, and Ste­phen and Christopher Lee.

Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015.
