George W. Farwell
Brookline, NH – George W. Farwell, 88, of Mason Road, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. Farwell was born in Nashua, November 25, 1926, one of six children born to Grover C. and Pearl (Jillson) Farwell and was a lifelong resident of Brookline.
Mr. Farwell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte A. (Jenson) Farwell; a son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Carol Farwell of Brookline; a brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marcia Farwell of Brookline; two grandchildren, Mary Cate Farwell of Boston, T.J. Farwell of Brookline and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Frank Farwell, Grover Farwell Jr. and Bentley Farwell; and a sister, Ellen D. Winters, all of Brookline, NH.
He was a 1944 graduate of Milford High School. During WWII, from 1944- 46 he served his country as an engine mechanic in the United States Navy. During that time, he was stationed on the USS Fallon and the USS YMS 36.
In 1947, Mr. Farwell, his brother, Grover, built the Potanipo Garage on Rte.13 in Brookline. For the next four decades he owned and operated the garage before retiring in 1991. He also owned and operated school buses serving the Town of Brookline.
For nearly thirty years. Mr. Farwell served as a member of the Brookline Fire Department serving from 1982-91 as Chief of Department. From 1982-1994 he served as the Brookline Fire Warden and for fifty years he served as a Hunter Safety Instructor in the State of New Hampshire. He was a member of the Brookline American Legion Post #74 and was also a member of the Brookline Community Church.
Funeral services were held at 10 AM Saturday, November 14th at the Brookline Community Church, Main Street, Brookline.
Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery.
