Ernest M. Reid

Ernest M. Reid, 97, resident of New Port Richey, FL, died on De­cember 21, 2015 at Gulfside Center for Hospice Care at Heather Hill in New Port Richey, FL.

He was born in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Sco­tia, Canada on October 28, 1918, a son of Herbert W. and Annie (Bryson) Reid. He was raised and educat­ed in Boston, MA.

Mr. Reid was employed by the City of Boston as a po­lice officer for 34 years and retired as a Sergeant. He held many memberships in various police associations and organizations.

Mr. Reid was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was hon­orably discharged in 1944 with the rank of Sergeant. In addition, he was a mem­ber of Merrill’s Marauders and the VFW.

He was predeceased by a son, James Reid, a daugh­ter and son-in-law, Laura and James Cavanagh.

Family members include his wife of 70 years, Flor­ence D. (Turner) Reid of New Port Richey, FL; two sons, Douglas Reid of Mil­ford, NH and Herbert Reid of Brockton, MA; three grandsons, Michael Reid, Brian Reid and Philip Ca­vanagh; five great grand­children, Kalei Reid, Evan Reid, Chloe Reid, Danielle Cavanagh and Hunter Ca­vanagh; a brother, Paul S. Reid; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Mason Road, Brookline, NH. Ar­rangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Mil­ford, NH. To share a mem­ory or offer a condolence, please go to
