Helynne C. Nelson
p>Mrs. Helynne (Cleto) Nelson, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 25, 2016 in the VITAS unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital.
She was the devoted wife of the late Robert A. Nelson, Sr. Mrs. Nelson was born on November 7, 1922, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanora (Petrillo) Cleto. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and obtained her associate degree in general studies from Naugatuck Valley Community College in 1998, at the age of 76. She began her career working as a secretary for the City of Waterbury Department of Education at Hendricken School. She moved to Notre Dame High School, where she worked for over 10 years as a secretary and retired from Sacred Heart High School, where she worked as a secretary in the guidance office for twelve years. Mrs. Nelson had a gift for making other people feel comfortable in any situation and always went above and beyond to help others.
Helynne is survived by her seven children, Mary Nelson of Watertown, Christopher Nelson and his wife Judy of Highlands Ranch, CO, Robert A. Nelson, Jr. and his wife Michele of Wallingford, Patricia Kokko and her husband William of Milford, NH, Joseph Nelson and his longtime companion Doreen Lawson of Waterbury, Elliot Nelson and his wife Pat of Bristol, and David Nelson and his wife Debra of Baltimore, MD. She also leaves her eleven grandchildren Dr. Michael Nelson and his wife Lizette of Fort Collins, CO, Kristen Gallinek and her husband Todd of Matthews, NC, Liz Parker and her husband Mark of Centennial, CO, Steven Nelson and his wife Hannah of Castle Rock, CO, Heather O’Connor and her husband Craig of New York, NY, Melissa Thibodeau and her husband Jason of Wallingford, Katherine Kokko of Milford, NH, Carolyn Kokko and her fiance Matthew Soucy of Ithica, NY, Sarah Nelson of Evanston, IL, Tyler Nelson of ME, and Brian Nelson of Baltimore, MD; and her eleven greatgrandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Helynne was predeceased by her sister Francesca Amato and her brothers Martin Richards, Charles Richards, and Joseph Richards.
The funeral was held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 9:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to the Our Lady of Loreto Church for Mass at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Mt.
