Daniel J. Rafferty Jr.

Daniel J. Raf­ferty Jr., 94, of Milford died on Tuesday May 10th, 2016, at the Elms in Milford after a period of de­clining health.

He was born in Hudson, NH, on Jan­uary 13, 1922, to the late Helena Belle (Reynolds) and Dan­iel Rafferty Sr.

Dan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Baltimore from 1942-1945. From 1952- 1966, he served part time with the Merrimack Police Department and in 1963 was the first full-time of­ficer hired, and worked for Sanders Assoc. for 20 years, prior to his retirement.

Dan and his wife Bar­bara spent 35 years in Mer­rimack before retiring to New Hampton, NH, and Lake Wales, FL, for the next 25 years before moving back to Milford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, photography, gardening, and talking on his ham ra­dio. Dan loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Leonard and Glendon Rafferty; two half brothers, Oscar and Fred Dube; and half sister Gen­evieve Bell.

Surviving members of his family include his lov­ing wife, Barbara (Young) Rafferty; two sons, Daniel F. Rafferty and his wife Rhonda, and Dennis Rafferty and his wife Caro­lyn; six grandchil­dren, Mike, Mark and his best friend Danielle Perugini, Jennifer, Heather Green­leaf and her husband Tom, Melissa Radford and her husband Scott, and Chris­tine Seelig and her best friend John Theriault; 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial calling hours were held at the Rivet Fu­neral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Mer­rimack on Monday, May 16th, from 5-7 PM. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady of Mercy, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Mer­rimack on Tuesday, May 17th, at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the NH State Veteran’s Cemetery, 110 Daniel Web­ster Highway, Boscawen.
