Lydia Lois Thomas Schellenberg
> Lydia Lois Thomas Schellenberg, widow of Roland Charles Schellenberg, who died on November 17, 1986, was born in Hyannis, Mass., on July 18, 1922.
She was the daughter of the late Evelyn Fish Thomas and Ernest Vaughan Thomas. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1940.
She married Roland C. Schellenberg on July 6, 1943. They lived in Lynnfield, Massachusetts before moving to Hollis, New Hampshire in September 1964.
She had worked for "My Insurance Man" while her husband was serving in the Air Force. For more than 30 years she worked at Brookdale Fruit Farm in Hollis.
She was active as a member of the Congregational Church of Hollis, UCC, as a member of the Ladies Society and Deacon Emerita. She was also active in the Hollis Woman’s Club, Hollis Historical Society, and the Hollis Day Circle of Home and Friends.
For many years she served as a checklist supervisor for the town. On March of 2012, Lydia was honored at the town meeting by the Veterans of Foreign Wars as the Citizen of the Year in appreciation of her many years of service to the Town of Hollis.
She was predeceased by a sister, Martha Falconieri, and a brother, Charles H. Thomas.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Nancy Tietze of New Jersey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Maggie Schellenberg of Milford, NH, and the Rev. Dr. Roger and Virginia Schellenberg of Virginia; three granddaughters and their spouses, Lauren and Dave Fenton of NJ, Kimberly and Brian Klecan of DE and Stacey and Andrew Wood of NH; granddaughter Samantha Schellenberg of VA; two grandsons, Brett Schellenberg of CA and Thomas Schellenberg of VA; a sister, Isabel Stepnik of Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Thomas and Marci Thomas of MA; two great-granddaughters; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Lydia enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, her church activities and time at the seashore.
SERVICES: There were no visiting hours. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Congregational Church of Hollis, UCC, 3 Monument Square, Hollis, NH 03049. Interment prayers and burial were private at East Cemetery in Hollis.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lydia’s memory to the Congregational Church of Hollis, UCC.
