Maria Therese Meyer

>Maria Therese Meyer of Bedford, NH died peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2016 – surrounded by family. She was 72.

Born and raised in Stansstad, Switzerland, Maria was a graduate of Hotel Business School in Lucerne. Maria held several positions in hotels across Switzerland before coming to the United States in 1964 to work at the World’s Fair in New York – where she met and fell in love with her husband, Andreas Meyer.

After two years in New York, they moved to Waterville Valley and opened the award-winning Fourways Restaurant in December 1967, started a family and became an important part of the Waterville Valley community for the next 15 years – until they moved to Amherst, NH. The move to Amherst marked the beginning of their next journey together – operating the very successful Green House Café Restaurant and Catering business for 21 years. Greenhouse patrons knew Maria to be a gracious hostess and manager, always at the door with an infectious smile on her face.

Throughout her life, Maria loved to travel and ensured her children would be given the same opportunities to travel to many beautiful places in the world – which included frequent visits to her native Switzerland. In recent years, her pride, joy and focus was on her two granddaughters, Campbell and Vivian – always looking forward to their weekly visits.

Maria is survived by Andreas, her loving husband of 49 years, and her two sons – Andreas Jr., with wife Kate and daughter Campbell of Francestown, NH and Eric, with wife Jennifer and daughter Vivian of Windham, NH. Maria also leaves behind four sisters: Helene, with husband Mike Paquin, Anita, Margrit and Hedy, with husband Martin Zumbuehl. She will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and so many good friends.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will take place this Thursday, August 25, from 4-8 p.m. at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104, where relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects. A private burial will be held at a later date in Waterville Valley.
