Jean Alice (Lamkin) French

LINCOLNVILLE, ME – Jean Alice (Lamkin) French, of Lincolnville, died peacefully at her home during the early morning hours of Friday, September 9th, 2016. She was 75.

Jean was born on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1941, in Augus­ta, Maine and was the daughter of Roland and Kath­erine Lamkin. On June 8, 1963, Jean married the love of her life, Donald French, in a small church in Manchester, Maine. Jean’s passion was teach­ing. She attended Farm­ington State Teachers Col­lege for 3 years then went on to graduate from Ohio State University in 1963. She also earned her Mas­ter’s Degree in Elemen­tary Education from Mem­phis State University. For 40 years, Jean worked as an elementary teacher, 29 of those years as a 4th grade teacher in Milford, NH.

Jean loved skiing, hik­ing camping, and reading. She also loved to spend time with her family, ei­ther down at the shore at their home in Lincol­nville, or attending her grandchildrens’ soccer games.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Don French; her two children, Michael French of Oak­land, CA, Jennifer Keat­ing, and son-In-Law, Mor­gan Keating, of Milford, NH; 5 grandchildren, Austin Martel, Gavin Mar­tel, Ella Keating, Jordan Keating, and Tay­lor Keating; sister, Sue Quirion and brother- in- law Frank; nephew Tommy, and niece Wendy; brother Mark Lamkin and sister-in-law Lin­da; niece Sherrie and her husband Chris, nephew Kyle and his wife Amy, and Shawn and his wife Ashley; as well as many great-nieces and nephews, friends and fellow teachers. Jean was predeceased by her father and stepmother, Roland and Katherine Lamkin.

A church funeral was held on September 13, 2016 at the First Congrega­tional Church in Camden, Maine followed by burial in French Cemetery in Lincolnville.
