Travel, Genealogy, Reading
Marcia Jane Hazen- Cheever of Milford, NH, died October 19, 2016, at age 86 after a brief illness. Family members were with her.
She was born February 6, 1930, in Mont Vernon, NH, the daughter of Jessie May (Dearborn) Hazen and Arthur Martin Hazen.
Ms. Cheever attended Milford High School and graduated in 1948. She worked in the banking profession for many years; she also was a teacher’s aid.
She lived in New Hampshire for her entire life, but loved to travel throughout the US and abroad, often with family. She took a cruise to Alaska, where she panned for gold; flew to Ireland, where she researched her family history; and she toured Italy and Germany, and went on multiple cruises.
In 1949, she married Donald Chester Cheever, her brother Alan Hazen’s best friend. The couple lived in their basement while they built their house in Mont Vernon, where they raised their three children.
She was a knitter, crocheter, gardener, avid reader, Girl Scout leader, chair caner, had her own quilting business for a few years, loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild, to name a few of her activities.
She was very active in her Golden Years, and served as President of the Milford AARP, President of the Beech Brook Association, volunteer for the American Red Cross, and a member of the Mont Vernon Historical Society. Her passion for history led her to conduct in-depth genealogies to document her own family history.
Her brother, Alan Hazen, and her former husband, Donald Cheever, predeceased Marcia.
She is survived by her three children, Brenda Cheever Ford and son-in-law Roger Ford of Franklin, NH; Bruce Cheever and daughter-in-law Karen Cheever of New Haven, VT; and Nancy Cheever Bryant and son-in-law Ken Bryant of Warren, VT; as well as seven grandchildren, Rebecca Cavanagh Burlem and Brandon Burlem, Jennifer Cavanagh Sleeper and Nick Sleeper, Colby Cheever, Cory Cheever and Amanda, Craig Cheever, Tyler Bryant, and Cortney Bryant; great-grandchild Daniel Cheever; and niece Sherry Hazen of Mont Vernon, NH.
A ceremony celebrating her long life and memories will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, 11 am at the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, where she was a lifetime member. Bring stories and memories to share.
In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the Mont Vernon Congregational Church.
