Melvin E. ‘Mel’ Reever

Melvin E. “Mel” Reever, 92, resident of Milford, NH, died on September 13, 2018 at Ledgewood Bay in Milford, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Manchester, NH on November 2, 1925, a son of Charles and Reba (Dockham) Reever. Mel was raised and educated in Laconia, NH and graduated from Laconia High School. He attended Boston University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and served during the Second World War. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mel made his home in Milford for 49 years where he and his wife Claire raised their family. He was the former owner of the Holt Insurance Agency in Milford and was an active member of his community. Mel was a longtime member of the Milford Rotary Club, having joined in 1968, and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. In addition, he was a member of Benevolent Lodge #7 F & AM and Bektash Shriners of New Hampshire. Mel was an avid New England sports fan and in his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee with his family and was a member of several golf leagues.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Claire E. (Lemere) Reever, and their son, Scott M. Reever.

Family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, Shelley Reever and Mark Hichar of Westwood, MA, and Kathy Peppers of Bedford, NH; a son, Mark Reever of Milford, NH; three grandchildren, Sarah Peppers, Matthew Hichar and Jennifer Hichar; a great granddaughter, Ayla Rose O’Toole; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Judie Reever of Lakeport, NH; a sister and brother-in-law, Ginny and Barry Lehneman of Gilford, NH, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours are on Thursday, September 20th from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 21st at 11:00 am in the Congregational Church of Amherst, 11 Church Street, Amherst, NH. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford, at a later date.
