Henry R. Van Alphen
Henry R. Van Alphen, 87, of Merrimack, and formerly of New Port Ritchey, FL, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2014, at his home.
Henry was born in Newark, NJ, and raised in West Orange, Henry resided in Fanwood, NJ, with his wife and 3 children until his retirement in 1988.
He worked for NJ Bell, and then AT&T for 40 years prior to his retirement. Henry relocated to New Port Ritchey, Florid,a where he remained until 5 years ago when he moved to New Hampshire to be near his family.
Henry served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS LST 306. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and especially antiquing. He was a strong man with a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He was also a wonderful husband to his wife, Ida Belle, for 30 years until she passed away in 1980.
Henry will be deeply missed and eternally remembered by his daughter Nancy Vigezzi and her husband Larry; his daughter Lynn Engel, his son John Van Alphen; his grandchildren Adam Van Alphen, Christopher Vigezzi, Steven Vigezzi, Samuel Van Alphen and David Engel. Henry was also the proud great-grandfather of Eleanor, Henry, Wesley and Evelyn Van Alphen.
There are no calling hours. Services were held at 2 P.M. on Monday, May 12th in the chapel at Restland Memorial Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
