Nancy Ann Nesmith Perkins
Nancy Ann Nesmith Perkins, a longtime resident of Amherst, NH dies May 29th at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Orange City, Florida after a brief illness. She was born in Derry NH on July 28th, 1938 to Daniel E. and Editha Bennert Nesmith. The family lived in Manchester NH prior to settling in Merrimack where Nancy and her sister Joyce were educated in the public schools. Her beloved husband Richard Perkins survived Nancy for only seven days when he passed on June 5th of 2014.
Nancy is survived by her sister Joyce and her husband George Bishop of Gilmanton, NH and her much loved niece, Linda Bishop Spade. Her son, Richard and his wife Evelyn Perkins of Nashua, her son David and his wife Lynn of Hudson, and her daughter Brenda Clarke Blond and her husband Dr. Carl J. Blond of San Antonio, Texas also survive her.
Nancy and her husband Richard would have been married for sixty years on August 20th, 2014. They began their life together residing at the site of The Common Man Restaurant in Merrimack NH. They built their first house together on Seaverns Bridge Road in Amherst where they raised their three children.
Nancy was an accomplished seamstress and talented knitter. She completed a certificate program in Dressmaking and Design through the International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1960. She was a grower of hundreds of varieties of roses at her home in New Hampshire and at her retirement home in Deland, Florida. She was awarded the Neighborhood Beautification Award in June of 2010 by her neighborhood Association in Deland, Florida. Nancy hand-knit thousands of chemotherapy caps for cancer patients in NH, Maine, and Texas; creamy white for the women, and burgundy for the men.
Nancy retired in 1999 from Airmar Technology Corporation in Milford NH. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren who include grandson Richard and his wife Melissa Perkins, and their two children, Alyssa and Richard James of Nashua, her granddaughter Erin and her husband Michael Seguin and their son Owen of Lowell, Massachusetts, her granddaughter Marybeth and her husband, Christopher Williams and their two children Mackenzie and Aubrey of Nashua, her granddaughter Amy Clarke Cornett and her husband Christopher Cornett, and their two girls, Caroline and Victoria Cornett of Morrisville, North Carolina, and her youngest grandson Ryan David Perkins of Nashua.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to neighbors and friends, Laura Tessier and her husband “Buzz”, for their help and support with Nancy and her husband Richard.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate the lives of Nancy and her husband Richard at the Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack NH on Saturday, August 23rd at 1 PM, immediately followed by a graveside gathering at the Last Rest Cemetery on Baboosic Lake Road in Merrimack. Friends, family, neighbors and associates are invited to The Common Man Restaurant to celebrate the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary with cake and refreshments at 4 PM in Merrimack NH.
