Consuelo Hebra, 73, of Merrimack, NH, died peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home.
Consuelo began her life in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of the late Josefina Valdés and Constantino Milián and sister of Silvia. Consuelo believed in justice, hard work, telling it like it is, and the power of a united family. She loved God, and her faith and devotion to the Virgin Mary sustained her to her last breath. She loved to sing, dance cha cha cha, ride motorcycles and observe nature – a nightfall, a moonrise, hummingbirds hovering at her feeder in summer. Most of all, Consuelo loved just “being” with her children and seven grandchildren, her extended family, her husband and the love of her life, Sergio, and the community of special friends she nurtured in Cuba and the U.S.
In 1967, Consuelo led her family out of Cuba and forever embraced America. She ran successful missions to help the rebels during the Cuban Revolution – before it was derailed by a Marxist despot. Whether teaching children in her neighborhood school in Havana, delivering mail in Nashua, interpreting for the Nashua Health Department or School District, conducting audits for the IRS, or managing CVS stores, Consuelo used her exceptional oratory skills to dispense wisdom and life lessons to everyone in her orbit. She was a formidable, compassionate and tough woman who knew how to build and savor a beautiful life.
The four generations of Hebra-Flaster-Merchants-Abelleiras will carry her spirit in their hearts forever.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Sergio, of Merrimack, NH; daughter, Ana Hebra Flaster, and husband, Andrew, of Lexington, MA; son, Sergio, Jr., and wife, Jada Keye Hebra; daughter, Diane, and husband, David Merchant, of Bedford, NH; and seven grandchildren, Natalia and Sam Flaster, Dante, Diego, and Mia Hebra, and Lily and Nickolas Merchant; her sister, Silvia Abelleira, and husband, Angel, Sr., of Merrimack; her brother, Rodolfo Milián and his wife, Maria Eugenia, of Miami, FL; and dear nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews, including Angel Abelleira Jr., Susan (McDonough) Abelleira, Audrey and Dennis Abelleira, Alberto Abelleira, Mary (Forrest) Abelleira, Andy Abelleira and Brandon Abelleira, Evelyn Abelleira, Sara and Sofia Abelleira.
