Paul J. Scagnelli

Paul J. Scagnelli, 92, of Merrimack, NH and formerly of West Hempstead, NY died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH after a period of declining health.

He was born in New York City, NY on February 7, 1924 to the late Joseph and Rose (Molga) Scagnelli.

Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He was a Staff Sergeant and served with 796th AAA Bn, Battery B. Paul kept in close contact with members of his unit through participation in the post war association and through Track Tracings Jr. Paul was interviewed for The Veterans History Project to detail his personal account of the war. He was a member of VFW Post 8641 in Merrimack. Paul was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was employed by Kollsman as a manager for many years before his retirement.

In addition to his parents he is pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Jennie (Sartori) Scagnelli who died March 21, 2014.

Members of his family include two daughters and two sons in-law, Susan and John Healey of Atlanta, GA, and Carol and David Edmonds of Merrimack, four grandchildren, Lisa Healey and her husband Keith Johnson, and great-grandchildren Emma and Tommy, and Johnny Healey and Ellie Younger, and David Edmonds, Jr. and his wife Bridget, and great-granddaughter Amber of Ocoee, Florida, and Anthony Edmonds of Merrimack; a sister Ines Graham of New York City, NY and several nieces and nephews. Paul was happiest surrounded by his family and making them laugh.

Calling Hours were held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Monday June 27, 2016 from 5 – 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack on Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Burial with military honors followed in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack.
