Hassan deserves re-election

To the Editor:

Maggie Hassan has my vote for governor of our state.

In her two years as governor, Governor Hassan has managed to craft an amazing amount of bi-partisan legislation. She has continually worked across party lines to solve problems and get real results for our state. For example, she passed the most bipartisan budget in over a decade. She worked across party lines to improve health services, fund a new women’s prison, and reach a fair agreement with the state’s hospitals. Governor Hassan signed a bipartisan transportation funding bill that invests in road and bridge projects across the state, including finishing the expansion of I-93.

On the economic front, Governor Hassan signed into law the Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure that women earn equal pay for equal work. She’s focused on helping existing businesses create jobs and bring new businesses into the state. Under Governor Hassan’s leadership, New Hampshire’s unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been since 2008. She has partnered with the business community to launch “Live Free and Start,” an initiative to make it easier for high-tech start-ups to launch and flourish in New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan understands that in order to build a strong work force, we need to build a strong and diversified education and training system. She has restored funding for New Hampshire’s colleges and universities, froze in-state tuition at the university system and cut tuition at our community colleges. She signed into law a bill doubling and making permanent the state’s Research & Development Tax Credit to support innovative companies.

To further strengthen and support middle class families, Governor Hassan brought Democrats and Republicans together to enact a bipartisan plan to expand access to health coverage to as many as 50,000 hard-working Granite Staters. She has restored funding for the Children in Need of Services (CHINS) program, and family planning services through providers like Planned Parenthood.

If re-elected, Governor Hassan will continue to advocate for the bipartisan causes outlined above. She has only just begun. We need to re-elect this innovative problem-solving governor to keep New Hampshire moving forward!
