Limit locations for ATC

To the Editor:

At the upcoming March 8 election, residents will have the opportunity to vote on limiting locations for any Bedford Alternate Treatment Center (ATC). These centers would dispense and cultivate medical marijuana as allowed by state law. This amendment restricts ATCs to areas in the Service Industrial and Performance District and provides for local standards. Otherwise, these centers would be allowed in all nonresidential zoning districts.

To avoid any confusion regarding this amendment, the establishment of medical marijuana ATCs is already permitted by state law. Voters are only being asked to approve new zoning criteria that are more restrictive than state law so to make it integrate into our community as best as possible.
