Filing deadline is fast approaching

To the Editor:

If you have ever taken the time to read the back of your tax bill, there is language speaking to property tax credits and exemptions printed on it; that language has been there for decades.

What you may not know is the annual deadline to file for any and all types of property tax exemptions and credits is April 15.

Many of you never see a tax bill because your mortgage company pays it on your behalf; well the filing deadline for any and all types of property tax exemptions and credits is still April 15. Therefore, if you think you may qualify for an exemption or credit if you are a veteran, a senior citizen, a person on Social Security Disability, a person with vision or hearing difficulties, or if you have a renewable fuel heat source from solar, wood, or wind you must apply by April 15, 2016, for the 2016 tax year.

There are details to be worked out in each case, but it is important to at least get the ball rolling by submitting an application by the due date. Applications and qualifications are available online from the assessor’s office page at www.bedfordnh.org, or call (472-8104) and come in to the assessor’s office at the town office building Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for an application.
