A successful Troop 5 yard sale

To the Editor:

We were again reminded how fortunate Troop 5 is to be part of Bedford and its surrounding communities. It was yet another record year for us thanks to the unbelievably generous donations of goods, space, time and hard work from so many of you. Your generosity translates directly into a better scouting experience for close to 80 Troop 5 scouts by allowing us to purchase camping and outdoor equipment, to help scouts attend leadership development training and to help scouts make life-long memories at summer camp.

I would personally like to thank all of you who donated items large and small to be sold at the sale and to those of you who found a treasure to purchase (maybe you even did both!) A big thank you to the folks that provided our temporary storage: a 40 foot container provided by Marc Fortin at Fortin Modular Storage plus of course a big thank you to Superintendent Tim Mayes and the staff at the Bedford SAU, especially Anne Wiggin, for again allowing Troop 5 to set up our donation collection depot in the SAU parking lot.

But how did we get all those treasures over to McKelvie on Friday night? Well of course Joe Gauci and his team at Gauci Landscaping rushed to our aid again this year, shuttling trailer load after trailer load of boxes over to the school. And speaking of schools, thanks to the staff and janitors at McKelvie School for all of their help, support, and understanding before, during and after the sale.

Lastly, I would like to thank our Troop 5 family for the huge effort required to make such a significant undertaking possible. I realize that it is a labor of love, that it is for a great cause and that we get to see the direct result of our efforts, but it is still a lot of work. I thank you.

Troop 5 is chartered by the Bedford Rotary Club, and we appreciate their continued support for all of our activities. We meet Monday evenings during the school year from 6:30-8 p.m. We love outdoor adventures that include backpacking, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking and of course lots of camping. If this sounds like fun and you are a young man between the ages of 11 and 18, please drop me an email at scoutmaster@bedfordtroop5.com. Or check out our website at http://www.bedfordtroop5.com.
