Hassan will stand up for women’s rights

To the Editor:

As an obstetrician and gynecologist practicing in Manchester for over 34 years, I have firsthand experience dealing with health care policies put into place by our elected officials. While the implications of each election are serious, the consequences of a Donald Trump presidency would be disastrous for women’s health care, and Sen. Kelly Ayotte strongly supports him in his run for the presidency.

Trump and Ayotte have said they want the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, which would turn back the clock on women’s reproductive rights. Even if they do not succeed on reversal of Roe v Wade, Trump and Ayotte support defunding Planned Parenthood and allowing employers to deny birth control coverage to their employees.

On the other hand, Gov. Maggie Hassan has been a leader on women’s health issues that take into account the importance of a woman’s right to control her reproductive decisions. She was recently endorsed by Planned Parenthood because she "is the only candidate in this race who will protect a woman’s right to safely access critical health services and make her own health decisions."

It’s clear that only one candidate is willing to stand up for New Hampshire women on crucial health issues, and that’s Gov. Hassan.
