Be courteous: Clear off snow

It might seem a bit late in the year for this, but given that we live in New England, one can never be sure, so:

Please clean snow and ice off the roofs of your vehicles.

Just last week, someone could have been killed when ice flew off the roof of a truck and struck the windshield of a car behind. In this case, no one died.

Years ago, when he was Milford’s police chief, Fred Douglas mounted a campaign to convince drivers of the wisdom of cleaning their cars by having his officers pull over those who hadn’t. Many got the message. Some, of course, didn’t, because some people never get it.

But today, it’s still a good idea, as the accident on Route 93 reminds us. Yes, winter is over (we hope), but you never know.
