It’s ‘Just the beginning’

Wilton keeps moving forward with plans to improve the attraction to its lovely downtown. Recently, the town applied for a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, a designation already held by its historic Town Hall.

Now, on Friday, Wilton will officially open its downtown river walk. A grand opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m. at the Police Station parking lot, and we urge all proud Wiltonites to head on down to mark the occasion and to have some free food and listen to music.

While you’re there, thank the folks and businesses that donated the five granite benches that will line the walk, try out the path and check out the river.

Also, you might want to pay some kudos to the town’s Economic Development Committee that created the river walk plan that it sees as “just the beginning” of redoing downtown. These folks are all volunteers giving their time to make Wilton a place that locals can enjoy even more and, we all hope, attract some visitors.

There are hopes of eventually extending the walk to the other side of the Main Street Bridge, so that it would ramble behind the downtown stores and behind the Main Street park, already a lovely area to which a walk would add. We hope that day comes soon.
