Freedom of press is vital

Here is a news item, picked up from The Hill website, that will, we hope, open the eyes of anyone who questions the importance of a free press:

“Rep. Tom Marino, R-Pa., is withdrawing his name from consideration as the nation’s drug czar, President Trump announced recently.

“The withdrawal followed a Washington Post-60 Minutes investigation that highlighted his support for legislation that weakened the government’s ability to go after drug companies that critics said contributed to the nation’s opioid crisis.”

Had it not been for the Post and 60 Minutes, this lackey of the drug industry would be the nation’s new drug czar, because it is impossible to imagine a Republican-controlled Senate blocking his nomination. Unless, of course, Sens. John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins continue their courageous opposition to attempts to hurt people like you.
