Thank you to the Souhegan Valley in helping brighten the holidays for those less fortunate

To the Editor:

Once again, the generosity of the Souhegan Valley was demonstrated in full force this holiday season.

With the help of so many, SHARE Outreach was able to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and gifts to 425 families. Families, schools, churches, businesses, civic groups and groups of friends and neighbors adopted families who would otherwise not have been able to provide gifts to their children. Thank you.

SHARE was fortunate to once again partner with the Amherst Junior Women’s Club, which provides wonderful Christmas baskets to Amherst families and the Holiday Toy Store, which ensures area children have toys under the Christmas tree. Together, we were able to harness the goodness of the Souhegan Valley to provide for those who needed a little boost.

Many also thought of others in the cold this winter. Thank you to the schools, Girl Scout and Brownie Troops, youth groups and businesses who collected new and used winter clothing and footwear for SHARE. While most of these donations were quickly distributed, we were lucky to have some on-hand during the first snow when a few school children were caught without boots, snow pants and warm jackets. Being able to provide for them was heartwarming.

A special thank you to so many who collected food and other goods for SHARE’s Food Pantry in the past few months. The bare shelves were replenished and some was put away in storage to help us through the next few months. For many in need, shopping at the food pantry allows them to feed their families and save much-needed cash for rent, heat, medicine and gas. It is the lifeline for those who would otherwise not be able to afford to pay their bills.

And finally, thank you to those who think of families in need all year long. SHARE provides food, clothing and emergency financial assistance. Call the SHARE Center at 673-98989 or go to www.sharenh.org to learn more.
