Raise the minimum wage

To the Editor:

Representative Robert Rowe’s letter in the Feb. 27 edition of The Cabinet in opposition to raising the minimum wage is specious at best.

The notion that raising the minimum wage would discourage “quality employers” from locating in New Hampshire is not in evidence.

“Quality employers” pay substantially more than the minimum. Those employers want a qualified and stable work force.

Statistics show that higher wages stimulate productivity and reduce turnover.

It also doesn’t address the moral issue of how we, as a rich nation, can have almost 5 percent (2012) of our workforce making minimum wages or less.

There is no dignity in poverty and I hope that our legislators realize that raising the minimum wage would have absolutely no effect on attracting real “quality employers” to New Hampshire.
