Decision erodes women’s rights
The president has announced that, in addition to the Global Gag Rule, he’s introducing a Domestic Gag Rule, forbidding doctors and other health care providers that receive U.S. Health Funding (Title X) from using their own private funding to provide health information on the option of abortion or to refer patients for abortion services.
Government rules already block U.S. funding from covering abortion services. The new rule will prevent doctors from even speaking about abortion options. Health care providers who practice at any hospital or health care center that receives Title X funding for services like cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, and low- or no-cost birth control, will be forced to physically separate their abortion education and services from their services as funded by Title X.
The Domestic Gag Rule will affect approximately 4,000 Planned Parenthood health care centers alone, serving about 4 million people.
Note: Gov. Chris Sununu, as legislator, voted to defund Planned Parenthood.
If the Gag Rule passes, health care providers may be forced to raise costs or close altogether, leaving many women and families without easy access to medical care and, perhaps, deterring them from seeking care at all. This will increase unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions and will result in higher maternal and newborn deaths nationwide.
These political tactics are designed to erode women’s reproductive rights.
Here is the slippery slope that leads to rolling back women’s basic human rights, escalating and accelerating the war on women. If you think your vote in November doesn’t count, think again.
