Act now to change party affiliation in Hollis

To the Editor:

If you wish to change your political party registration in time for the next primary election, now is the time to do so.

On Sept. 9, the New Hampshire statewide primary election will be held. This election will choose each party’s nominees for the offices of governor, U.S. senator, congressman, executive councilor, state senator, state representatives, and various county offices.

Because this is a primary election, you will be given a ballot based on your party registration. If you are registered as a Democrat, you may only vote in the Democratic primary; if you are registered as a Republican, you may only vote in the Republican primary. If you are registered as “Undeclared,” you may choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot. New election-day registrations may also choose which primary in which to vote.

The last day to change your party affiliation before the Primary is Tuesday, June 3. To change your party, you can either visit the town clerk, or attend the session of the Supervisors of the Checklist on the evening of June 3 from 7-7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

If you wish to verify your current party affiliation, you can do so by visiting the town clerk or by looking up your name in the copy of the Voter Checklist that is posted in Town Hall.

Every primary election, several voters are unable to vote in the party primary of their choice because they are registered in the other party. I urge voters to make sure their party affiliations are correct before June 3.
