Going the distance
Tristam Winship won the Division I boys cross country championship to help lead the Bedford High School boys to a fourth-place finish in the meet.
The Bulldogs recorded 157 points, finishing behind first-place Pinkerton (97), but by placing in the top eight, Bedford qualified as a team for Saturday’s Meet of Champions at Nashua South.
Winship won the race in 16 minutes, 6 seconds, to finish 10 seconds ahead of second-place Justin Trott of Winnacunnet. Scott Daly finished sixth for Bedford in 16:35, while Michael Dee was 23rd in 16:59. Also scoring for Bedford were Sam Zeltner (63rd, 17:48) and Michael Giraldi (64th, 17:49).
The Bedford girls finished sixth with 196 points, and will also compete as a team at the MOCs. Exeter’s Shannon Murdock won the race in 18:35 while Winnacunnet (61) took first as a team.
Gwenyth Winship led the Bulldogs by coming in eighth in 19:46. Kathleen Ho Sang was 27th (20:18) and Caroline Conrad was 31st (20:34). Also scoring for Bedford were Emerson Desmarais (45th, 21:00) and Brittany McDonough (85th, 22:27).
