TRAVEL BASKETBALL

Grade 5 girls

In the final regular season game, the Bedford girls took advantage of the strong free-throw shooting of Julian Bell to edge out Auburn in OT, 27-25. Bell led the scoring with eight points, including six from the stripe, and had the team-high five steals. Caleigh O’Connell was right behind her in the scoring with six points, and nine rebounds. Catherine Penick grabbed 10 boards and added a free throw of her own. Saphia Mumpini added eight more rebounds and four steals to the team total.

Fiona Gillis was everywhere on the court, grabbing an additional four steals, scoring two points, and pulling down 17 rebounds to lead the effort on the boards. Kayla Ware came up with four steals in the defensive effort. In a game where every point was needed, Syd Suozzo and Riley Skinner each contributed four, and Emma Kasyjanski added the remaing bucket. The team finished the regular season undefeated at 13-0.

Grade 5/6 girls

Bedford closed out a very successful regular season with a solid 24-8 victory over visiting New Boston. Turning up the defense to limit New Boston to zero points in the second half was the key to the victory. Caitlyn Lemay had a great game scoring six points. Laura Callahan and Mary Provost followed with four each. Marie Hamill also contributed with eight. In their first season playing together, the girls closed out with an 8-5 record.
