GIRLS BASKETBALL

Third- and fourth-grade

Bedford Athletic Club completed its perfect season with a 12-2 victory over Seaboard International Forest Products to win the championship. Seaboard scored the first points to lead 2-0 when Kendal Joyce scored in the second minute of the game from an assist from Susan Munleyand. Seaboard showed excellent poise on offense as they worked the clock down to limit BAC’s scoring.

As the game progressed, BAC made the most of its limited opportunities and were able to pull away in the second half to claim the championship. Victoria Manniello and Ava DuBois each led the team in scoring with four points and both Anna Wolf and Regan O’Brien each chipped in a basket of their own. Grace Crowder and Evelyn Rubin provided smothering defense that limited Seaboard’s scoring opportunities down low. Aparna Thandapani demonstrated quick hands with two key steals and Emmy Nadeau provided excellent guard play with crisp passes and movement off the ball.

Defensively for Seaboard, Thea Sarajlic provided some key rebounds with Ryan Burke and Elena Doughty added several key steals. Grace Krueger and Emily Lyon played outstanding defense as well. Great improvement and fun over the course of the season for Seaboard.

Fifth- and sixth-grade

Nail Indulgence capped off its undefeated season with a nail biting 10-6 win in the championship game over a tough and determined Small Green Computer team.

Megan Thornton was awesome in carrying the offense with six points. Faith Laliberte had another strong game and finished with 2 points, and Erin McCarthy added another two in the final 30 seconds to help seal the win. Juliana Braga and Samara Vu did a great job in leading the offense by dribbling around the tough Small Green Computer defense and making crisp passes to teammates.

The entire team played fantastic defense, but there were standout performances by Brooke Letzelter, Elizabeth Chopra, Sarah Jacobs, and Christina Braga, who were tenacious in making numerous steals, diving for loose balls, and ripping down rebounds.

Seventh- and eighth-grade

The SnapDragons defeated the Mavericks 15-10 and won the championship. Delaney Flanagan and Meghan Lang paced the offense and the entire squad played shut down defense and hustled on both ends of the floor the entire game. The Mavericks could not get the shots to fall with countless rim outs but played well defensively. Katherine Sasso and Kate Hirnak applied pressure in the backcourt all day.

Caroline O’Donnell, Amelia Edwards & Kallie Polgrean supplied the offense and owned the boards for the Mavs. They want to thank all their fans that kept them in the game until the last second.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fourth-grade

Bedford Athletic Club earned a hard fought victory, 16-6 in the finals against a tough Ulster Property Services team.

In a defensive first half, Dominic DeBlasi, Robert Izsak, and Liam MacDonald helped keep BAC in the game. In the second half, BAC got a spark with key baskets from Colin Kelly and Avneesh Prabakar to take the lead. James Gere, Cole Diehl and Sam Lubelczyk continued to put the offensive pressure on for the remainder of the game and shut down defense by Jake Brien and Ryan Gere along with tough rebounding helped BAC secure the victory.

Fifth- and sixth-grade

Kazan, Shaughnessy & McDonald defeated CAMP Systems 46-17 to win the ACC division title. Patrick McDonald scored 10 points and Dylan MacLeod and Davis Anderson played tenacious defense in a great team effort.

Kazan, Shaughnessy & McDonald defeated The Screaming Monkeys in the league championship game 34-26. TJ Crowley did a great job breaking down The Screaming Monkeys tough defense and Colby Martineau scored some key buckets. Everyone Made meaningful contributions as KSM secured the championship and remained undefeated.

Seventh- and eighth-grade

The championship was played between Bedford Friends of Recreation and Pizza Mia. Pizza Mia defeated Bedford Friends of Recreation 23-21 in a game that was back and forth right up to the final buzzer.
