College: Bedford native named NE-10 Golfer of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Bedford native and SNHU senior Jake Nutter and freshman Matt Paradis (Hooksett) of the Southern New Hampshire University men’s golf team were named the Northeast-10 Golfer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 20, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

Nutter captured the Barton Intercollegiate individual title last Tuesday as he led the Penmen to the team championship. Nutter shot a 73 on Monday and again on Tuesday to find himself in a three-way playoff at the end of 36 holes with Paradis and Mount Olive’s Brady Hollenbacker. Nutter and Hollenbacker each made par on the first playoff hole to move on after Paradis made bogey. On the second hole, Nutter made par again following a Hollenbacker bogey to earn the individual title.

Krzyston named Liberty League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior defensemen Jakob Krzyston, a Bedford native and Bishop Guertin graduate, of the RIT men’s lacrosse team was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of Week on Monday, for the week ending March 13. It is the first time Krzyston has been honored by the league.

Krzyston helped the No. 3 Tigers to a 2-0 record last week, helping the RIT defense hold opponents to 8.5 goals per game. Krzyston grabbed six ground balls and caused four turnovers in the two wins. On Wednesday, Krzyston grabbed three ground balls and caused four turnovers in a 12-9 win over No. 12 SUNY Cortland at the Carrier Dome. Saturday, Krzyston scooped up three ground balls in 12-8 win at Liberty League foe Rensselaer.

McInerny on CAA All-Academic team

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of New Hampshire football team placed an all-time best 29 members on the 2015 CAA Academic All-Conference Team, including sophomore Will McInerny, a Bedford native, for the second time in his career.

To be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors, players must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. Voting for the Student-Athlete of the Year award was conduced by the league’s media relations directors.
