Bedford tennis wins title

The Bedford boys tennis team won its seventh straight state championship on Tuesday with a 7-2 triumph over third-seeded Derryfield.

The Bulldogs won Division II championships from 2010-12 and have now won the past four Division I crowns.

Bedford won four of six singles matches on Tuesday to claim the championship.

Zack Gould beat Sam Grondin 8-6 at No. 1 and Rohit Yerram defeated Gavin Shilling 9-8, 7-5 tiebreaker at No. 2. Derryfield claimed the third and fourth singles matches, but Mike Soucy topped Jeff Pratt 8-6 at No. 5 and Tim Weeks blanked Ethan Chen 8-0 at No. 6.

The Bulldogs swept doubles action to clinch the title.

The No. 1 team of Yerram and Andrew Allen downed the combination of Grondin and Schilling by an 8-2 margin, while No. 2 Gould and Ian Horne picked up an 8-5 win over Curtin/Higley. The No. 3 team of Soucy and Weeks beat Pratt and Chen 8-2.

Bedford finishes the season with a perfect 17-0 record.
