Milford’s Mazzeo signs letter of intent
It’s been about three or four years since Julia Mazzeo decided she wanted to continue her softball career at the collegiate level.
On Nov. 18, that dream became a reality, when the Milford High School senior signed her national letter of intent to play softball at Assumption College, located in Worcester, Mass.
“It was very stressful, but I went to visit schools and do tours and I narrowed it down to three and contacted the coaches,” Mazzeo said. “(Assumption) is not too big and not too small. I like the team. I got to practice with them, and the coaches are nice.
“They had to have my major, and for me, that’s a science major. They have a new science building. For education wise, it fit my needs.”
Jim Rines, Mazzeo’s coach at Milford and with the New England Diamond Gems, thinks its a good fit on the field as well.
“Julia is a very dynamic player, both offensively and defensively,” he said. “She’s highly skilled and knowledgeable of the game and she has the intangibles to be that leader on the field. She doesn’t crumble under pressure and carries herself very professionally all the time.
“I think she’ll fit in fine as far as the team goes.”
