Time to hit the mat

MILFORD – The Milford High wrestling team will certainly be rebuilding. This is an overhaul, a bigtime project. It couldn’t be in better hands.

Coach Dana Bourassa, in his 41st year, has put together a blue-chip staff. Co-head coach Jeff Sellars, varsity assistant Ken Goodine and JV Coach Joe Faucher were all state champions and place winners at the Meet of Champions, representing Milford.

Just how does that translate to the mat, where Milford went 20-6 and placed fourth overall in Division II?

Junior Dominic Goulet is the top returner, a runner-up in the state a year ago. Senior Ricky DeBernardo is a state-placer a year ago, and Maverick Dodier is another senior with the ability to do some damage. Juniors Ethan Briggs and Trevor Grenier gained valuable experience while earning fifth and sixth places respectively at the state meet.

Charlie Carter and Rudy Schnare round on the returners on a Spartan squad that had 19 boys come out for the team in high school with 36 learning their moves in the middle school program.

“We have a squad with no returning state champions and we graduated 12 Seniors,so we are re-building,” said Bourassa. “However, we have a great coaching staff, spirit is high and the wrestlers are working very hard.”
