Mont Vernon’s Simmond honored

Andre Simmond of Mont Vernon enjoyed a sparkling soccer career at the University of South Carolina Aiken.

He capped his career in style as Simmond was named to Gold Scholars List on the Peach Belt Conference’s Presidential Honor Roll.

The Gold list is the top honor for student athletes carrying grade point averages between 3.75 and 4.0.

A two-time All-Academic Team honoree, Simmond played his high school soccer for Brewster Academy.

The midfielder had a goal and six assists this past fall, finishing his Pacers career with 16 goals and 31 assists in 68 career matches. Those assists top the South Carolina Aiken all-time list.

Simmond earned first-team All-Conference status after both his junior and senior seasons. He also earned the Team MVP this past fall for the Pacers, who were 4-10-2 on the year.

The psychology major was also a second-team All-Conference pick both as a freshman and

sophomore.
