Amherst’s Wason a state champ

Charles Wason, 13, of Amherst would not be denied, winning the 2018 U14 state championship in the Elks Boys Soccer Shoot, Sunday in Dover.

The chilly temps did little to slow down Wason, who scored 43 points, the second most in any division on the day.

Cameron Bastien, the Boys U12 champ from Rochester, won the Golden Boot Award with 45 points, highest in the State Shoot.

Nashua’s Max Signoroni won the runner-up spot in the Boys U8 Division which was won by Derry/Salem’s Jayden Phan.

Max’s Brother Joey placed third in the U10 Boys Division which was won by Claremont’s Kasey Morin. Nashua’s other trophy winner was Addison Varley who placed third in the U12 Girls Division.

Stella Mitropoulis of Rochester won the Girls U12 Division. Nashua’s Rosalie Neveu placed fourth in the U10 Girls Division won by Hannah Pincince of Rochester.

After the Shoot, an awards lunch was served to everyone and the trophies were given out in the Dover Elks Hall.

The state champs will now travel to Albany, N.Y., for regionals on Nov. 3-5.
