HB U10 All-Star Recaps

June 8 – HB 4, Merrimack 3

Ben Petrella hit the game-winning RBI and Alex Razzaboni pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief, allowing only one unearned run and striking out seven, leading HB to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory at Nichols Field in Hollis.

Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, Jackson Goldstein doubled to start the inning and scored on an RBI single by Andrew Eckman. After an Adam Connelly single, Razzaboni hit a sac fly to tie game. Petrella laced a grounder on the first pitch through the infield driving in Connelly to put HB ahead for good.

June 9 – HB 8, Jaffrey 1

Elliot Troddyn went 2 for 2 including a bases-loaded triple during a six-run fourth inning leading HB to a second straight victory. Travis LaFontaine doubled with one out and scored on an Adam Connelly single with one out in the fourth to put HB up 2-1. Following a bases-loaded walk to Evan Costa and a single by Ben Petralla, Martin Bergeron ripped a single to center field to make the score 4-1. Troddyn then drove a deep fly ball to left for a three-RBI triple. Ben Dufoe capped the scoring with an RBI single to center. Costa struck out the side in the fifth and Bryce Sturges closed out the win on the mound.

June 10 – HB 2, Amherst 0

Jackson Goldstein carried Hollis Brookline to a 2-0 victory over Amherst at Hollis Nichols with a strong game at the plate and on the mound. Jackson broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 4th inning with a two-run homer over the fence in right-center field. Winning pitcher Goldstein shut down Amherst on the mound. Amherst managed just two hits off of the right-hander, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out seven during his four innings of work. Evan Costa earned the save, pitching the final two innings to complete the shutout and propel the HB U10s to a 3-0 start.

June 12 – Keene 10, HB 4

Despite first inning home runs by Andrew Eckman and Jackson Goldstein, HB fell to Keene to 10-4. Bryce Sturges continued his hot hitting going 2 for 2 to pace HB, but a grand slam by Cam French in the top of the sixth put the game out of reach, handing HB their first loss of the tournament.

June 12 – HB 6, Kearsarge Valley 0

HB bounced back from its earlier loss and earned a spot in the Championship game of the U10 Swanzey Invitational with a 6-0 victory over Kearsarge Valley. The top of the lineup did most of the damage, with Andrew Eckman continuing his power display with a long double to left center in a 2 for 2 effort with two runs scored. Bryce Sturges also had two hits and an RBI while Gavin Knudsen and Travis LaFontainne each had RBI singles. Pitching was the story in this game, as LaFontaine and Sturges each pitched three innings of shutout ball. LaFontaine started for HB and picked up the crucial win allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Sturges picked up the three-inning save allowing only two hits and no walks, picking up six strikeouts.
