Six competitors reach Granite YMCA finals
Six of the 13 Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program athletes made the finals of the Granite YMCA Holiday Tournament in Bedford with Aiden Hanning, grade 6, pinning all three of his opponents en route to a first place finish.
Rhys Dewar, kindergartner, won one match by pin leading to a second place finish. First grader Cayden Dine won two matches, one via pin, to also finish in second.
Jackson Meehan, first grade, pinned two opponents before falling by pin in the championship match to finish second.
Ivey Johnson, second grade, won one match putting her on the podium in second place.
Kevin Sheridan, third grade, pinned his first opponent but then lost a close championship match, finishing second.
Sixth grader Anson Dewar lost his first match but rallied back in the consolation bracket to win three matches and finish third.
Christian Makowski, third grade, pinned two opponents to finish fourth overall while kindergartner Collin Schuster, third graders Mitchell Krupp and Kennedy Dillon, and sixth grader Anthony Maglio also competed.
Merrimack wrestlers do well
The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program sent eleven wrestlers to compete recently in the Jon Spohn Memorial Wrestling Classic held at Salem High School.
Third grader Kevin Sheridan lost a tough match but then rebounded to pin his next two opponents, netting a 3rd place podium finish.
Kindergartener Kael McAloon racked up three victories en route to his third place finish.
Jackson Meehan, a first grader, won two matches by pin on the way to a fourth place mark.
Kindergarteners Collin Schuster and Rhys Dewar, first grader Cayden Dine, third grader Mitchell Krupp, and sixth graders Anthony Maglio, Anson Dewar, and Aiden Hanning all won at least one match on the day. Seventh grader, Diego Vizcarra, also participated in the tournament.
