Merrimack youth wrestlers shine in Stratham
The Merrimack Youth Wrestling program sent nine wrestlers to compete in the 2016 Blue Hawk Youth Wrestling Tournament held at the Cooperative Middle School of Stratham on Jan. 17. Individual results were as follows:
First graders Rhys Dewar and Kael McAloon finished in second and fourth place, respectively, each with one pin.
First grader Collin Schuster also competed and fell in his first match by a single point.
Second graders Gryffen Gelinas, Cayden Dine and Jackson Meehan took fourth, third and first place, respectively. Gelinas and Meehan had one pin each and Dine had two pins on the day.
Third grader Ivey Johnson rolled through her bracket, pinning all of her opponents and taking first place on the podium.
Fourth graders Owen Forrest and Mitchell Krupp both fought hard, taking fourth place.
The Merrimack Youth Wrestling program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-6. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world’s oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The program is in its ninth season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
