Local Fourth of July events promise fireworks, parades and music

Amherst

The following events will be held in Amherst to celebrate Independence Day.

  • July 3 at Souhegan High School: Hot air balloon rides from 5:30-dusk; Amherst Fire and EMS vs. Milford Fire Dept. softball game and food, 6-8 p.m. at Bean Baseball Field; Hot dogs, burgers, drinks and ice cream by stadium, 6-9 p.m.; face-painting from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Roaming Railroad from 6 p.m.-dusk; Amy Conley & the Calico Toad Band from 7-7:45 p.m. at the stadium; Amherst Town Band concert from 8 p.m.-dusk at the stadium; and fireworks start at dusk. Rain date is July 4.
  • July 4 at Amherst Village: Historical museums open on Middle Street from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Declaration of Independence with Uncle Sam (reviewing stand), 9:15 a.m.; the Music Man Quartet (reviewing stand) at 9:45 a.m.; Children’s Bicycle Parade is at 10 a.m. (judging at 9:45 a.m.) at Knight Field on Main Street and parade steps off from Wilkins School at 10 a.m. Village Green activities include: an art show, booths, clowns, Pocket Ladies, children’s activities, food and old-fashioned craft demonstrations from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Animals on the Green (Middle Street End) from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; Antique Auto Show (church side of Green) at 11 a.m.; and reviewing stand ceremonies following the parade and Dog Tales – A Dog Show, following the ceremonies.

Brookline

On July 4, the Max Cohen Grove, 3 Mason Road, will be opened to the public after 7 p.m. for viewing the fireworks over Lake Potanipo. Donations will be taken at the grove.

Greenville

Greenville will start celebrating Independence Day on July 3 at the Town Fields. Food vendors, disc jockey at 8 p.m., floats judging at 10 p.m., 50/50 raffle drawing at 11 p.m., fireworks at midnight along with a pots and pans, floats and fire trucks parade. Floats should use a patriotic or Summertime Fun theme. First place wins $100, second place wins $50 and third place wins $25. Floats will be judged on originality, creativity and overall theme.

On July 4, the children’s bike parade will start at 11:30 a.m. Decorate your bikes. Line up at Panda Wok. The parade starts at noon down Main Street to the elementary school.

Manchester

On June 30, the 39th Army Band will play from 7:30 p.m. into the beginning of the fireworks display which starts at 9:30 p.m. at Arms Park. The park will close to vehicular traffic at 6 p.m. There will be food and beverage vendors on site beginning at 6 p.m., or bring your own. No pets please. No alcoholic beverages allowed. Admission is free. Rain date (fireworks only) is July 5.

A Fourth of July fireworks show will be presented after the 7:05 p.m. Fisher Cats versus the Portland Sea Dogs game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, 1 Line Drive. Game tickets are $6-$27. Information and tickets: milb.com.

Merrimack

The Merrimack Concert Association will perform in an Independence Day Eve Concert at 7 p.m. July 3 on the bandstand in Abbie Griffin Park. Admission is free. Root beer floats will be available. During the evening a 50/50 raffle will be held and MCA 20th anniversary cookbooks will be for sale. Bring a picnic, favorite chair or blanket. The Rotary Club of Merrimack is organizing the Merrimack Rotary July 4th Family Day festivities.

The day’s schedule consists of the following:

  • Sparkler 5K Road Race (starts at Merrimack YMCA), 8 a.m.
  • Merrimack Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast (Merrimack High School cafeteria), 8 a.m.-noon.
  • Parade (Daniel Webster Highway to Baboosic Lake Road ending at the Merrimack High School), 1 p.m.
  • Merrimack Rotary Family Day (Mastricola Elementary School Grass Fields), noon-8 p.m. Chalk art, multiple food vendors, clubs and service organizations, nonprofit organizations, children’s entertainment, teen entertainment, live stage events, Merrimack Police dunk tank, baking contest, local bands, live demonstrations and more.
  • Fireworks (Merrimack High School field) at dusk.

Milford

On July 4 at Keyes Memorial Park, 45 Elm St., Family Fun Days starts at noon with a Patriotic Bike Parade and contest. Decorate your bike, stroller or wagon. DJ Dave Alcox will be at the dunk tank from noon-3 p.m. There also will be face-painting and temporary tattoos, tie-dye T-shirts, pie-eating contest, limbo, sack race, watermelon seed-spitting contest, hula hoop contest and bubble blowing contest. There will be pool activities from 2-5 p.m. Keyes concession stand and fried dough available all day. Alcox and Rob Oxford’s performance starts at 8 p.m.; fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Rain date is July 5. No dogs. Free.

Nashua

July 4 festivities at Holman Stadium begin with a Children’s Field Day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Snow cones for the first 600 people. The day continues with the Air Force Pop Music Band concert at 6 p.m. and the Spartan Drum & Bugle Corps mini concert at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks start at 9. Free admission.

Peterborough

The annual Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Fireworks will be July 7 at the ConVal Athletic Fields on Route 202. The rain date is July 14. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the fireworks display will begin at dusk. Walk-up admission is $3 per person, with no family paying more than $10. There will be premier parking in the ConVal parking lot for $15 per carload. There will be free parking at SMS.
