Bicyclist struck, killed in Wilton

Police seeking more information on case

WILTON – A 60-year-old bicyclist from Bedford died Sunday after he was hit by a car on Route 31 in Wilton.

State police say Jeremiah Fitzgibbon was riding south on Route 31 in the breakdown lane on a Trek road bicycle, and Albert S. Dodge III, 24, of Wilton, was driving northbound and trying to make a left-hand turn onto Burton Highway shortly before 3 p.m. April 2.

“For unknown reasons at this time, the operator of the white 2006 Subaru Impreza failed to recognize the southbound-

traveling cyclist, ultimately crossing into its path and striking the cyclist,” according to a police statement.

Fitzgibbon later died of his injuries at an area hospital.

Assisting on the scene were Wilton Police, Wilton Fire-Rescue, EMS crews and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Route 31 between Dale Street and Burton Highway was closed for several hours following the crash.

The investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit.
