Articles set

LYNDEBOROUGH – The Town Meeting this year should be completed by noon. Of the 14 articles on the warrant, the first three are ballot questions and six are concerned with capital reserve funds of various kinds. That leaves the operating budget, paving two parking lots and forming a committee to study street lighting.

The business portion of town meeting is set for Saturday, March 17, 10 a.m. at Citizen’s Hall. Voting will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Citizens’ Hall.

The budget totals $2,042,032. The operating budget portion is 2.9 percent over last year. With warrant articles the increase is a 5.7 percent.

The two parking lots to be paved are at Citizens’ Hall and the J.A. Tarbell Library. Paved lots are both safer (they ice over quickly) and easier on wood floors – gravel gets tracked in. Both projects have been considered several times in the past.

The proposed street light study committee will look at the town’s 18 street lights and decide if they are needed, if there should be others, if they should be replaced with LED lighting, what they should look like (do they fit the character of the neighborhood), and consider environmental factors.

Contributions are asked for funds involving 1994 Fire Department pumper; the 1984 tanker; ambulance and medical equipment.

The purpose of the existing Repair and Replacement of the 2002 Mack Truck would be changed to Repair and Replacement of the 2018 Dump Truck. The 2002 truck is due to be replaced with a new one. Because the new one is larger, an additional $49,000 will be needed.

The town plans to buy a new police cruiser.
