Open Water

A family enjoys a boat ride on Milford’s Osgood Pond, where dredging of several acres increased its depth, and there is now open water year round. Other improvements include an ADA-compliant fishing pier, picnic facilities and a boat ramp for kayaks, canoes, and row boats. The Fish and Game Department stocked it with fish a year or so ago and the fish are reproducing. The pond now has deep and shallow areas as well as open water, and its weedy edges provide diverse habitat for many water-oriented species, said Fred Elkind, the town’s conservation coordinator. Several species of birds visit or call the pond and adjacent areas home.
