Alene Candles breaks ground on $30 million warehouse in Ohio

MILFORD – Alene Candles, one of the nation’s leading full-service contract and private-label candle manufacturers, broke ground on a new $30 million, 280,000 square-foot warehouse facility in the New Albany International Business Park last week in New Albany, Ohio. The company, headquartered in Milford, anticipates creating 58 jobs, which will contribute $2.5 million in salaries and wages to the local economy, once construction is complete.

“Expanding in Ohio allows us to work with our customers to meet their needs and to make the best candles in the world,” said Rod Harl, president of Alene Candles. “With our New Hampshire location, we have a great example to follow for the new facility’s layout and managing its day-to-day operations. We know that our New Hampshire facility and team will continue to provide a great example, thriving and driving business, well into the future.”

Experiencing sustained growth over the past 10 years, Alene Candles has increased its output seven-fold and quadrupled its workforce over that time. To support continued growth, the company built a second location at 8860 Smith’s Mill Road in New Albany, Ohio in 2012; since then, it has increased its production at that facility four-fold.

Working with The Daimler Group, a Columbus-based real estate developer, Alene Candles decided to build a new facility approximately one mile away from the current building in Ohio.

Alene Candles currently employs more than 210 people in New Hampshire and nearly 170 people in Ohio, with an additional 58 new jobs expected in Ohio once construction on the new facility is complete. The company anticipates construction to be completed by mid-2020, at which point it will begin transitioning from its current off-site warehousing location.
