MSB Candidate McLean: ‘It’s good that things are coming to light’

MILFORD — In Mike McLean’s opinion, the Milford school board is sitting on, “defense.”

“They seem very cautious in everything they’re doing,” he said. “They are really under the spotlight to make sure they’re doing what’s right. This is a whole new time for the board and everybody wants to make sure that everything goes right.”

McLean said residents have a vested interest in how the board operates — as parents and taxpayers.

“It’s good that things are coming to light,” he said. “After years of more or less being in the shadows, it’s great to see people taking notice of things.”

The father of two boys in the Milford school district, McLean’s take on the superintendent is positive and said he is a huge advocate for the educational system here.

“She has a really good direction as to where she wants the district to go,” he explained, “as far as pushing students to perform at their highest capability. When I went to meetings, and heard her strategic plan, and met with her, I asked her questions and liked that she’s trying to help students reach their full potential.”

McLean said as a board member, with tensions high, he sees a division between the school board and the school administration, as well as the ‘Milford Strong.’

“I see that both sides are fighting for what they believe in,” he said. “They’re passionate about it, but there hasn’t been anybody who wants to work with both sides and try to smooth it out as much as possible.”

McLean said he prides himself on being a good communicator and believes that he would be an asset to the board.

“I feel that I can bridge the division that is happening,” he stated. “I am open and will meet with anyone. ‘Milford Strong’ group, the administration. I believe that I can find common ground– with give and take on both sides.”
