Ski area to be closed for race

MANCHESTER – Adventure5k and McIntyre Ski Area announced that the trails behind McIntyre Ski Area and the area around Westin Tower will be closed to the public April 27, in preparation for the Adventure5k race on April 28.

The trails will reopen April 29, after they’ve been cleared of any barriers and obstacles. The obstacles will impede passage on the trails from the top of McIntyre Ski Area to Westin Tower and around the reservoir. Spectators are welcome to view the fun at no charge at the base of McIntyre Ski Area, 50 Chalet Way, starting at 10 a.m. April 28. The race will conclude at about 4 p.m. Obstacles will be removed from the public area of the trails as soon as possible after the conclusion of the race.

Adventure5k is a 3.1-mile run with an obstacle course within the race. Each run is different, challenging participants to think on their feet, push themselves and tackle obstacles before them.

After the race, there will be music, food and beverages.

Adventure5k was created by NH.com in partnership with CrossFit TUFF. John and Rich Duncan, of Crossfit TUFF, created the obstacles.

Nearly 700 runners have signed up to compete.

“We’re really excited, the city is really excited – it’s a great event for the area,” Erin Asselin, assistant snow sports director, and events coordinator, said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. wave times are full, and other time slots are filling up quickly. Most runners sign up in teams, and Adventure5k already has nearly 100 teams signed up and ready to run. Adventure5K organizers expect to see nearly 1,000 runners and 2,000 spectators on race day. No one is allowed on the obstacles or on the course without a signed waiver and paid registration.

In participation with McIntyre Ski Area and CrossFit Tuff, the race organizers are actively fundraising for Moore Mart, which sends packages to overseas military, and the New Hampshire Food Bank.

Race registrations are encouraged online at www.Adventure5k.com. The site includes a course map, tips on what runners should bring and wear, as well as answers to other frequently asked questions. Cost is $100, cash only

Adventure5k race partners include McIntyre Ski Area, Crossfit TUFF, as well as Goodales Bike Shop, Center for Physical Therapy and Exercise, Fit it in Fitness, Runners Alley, Monster Energy Drink, Michelob Ultra, Northeast Delta Dental, St. Joseph Hospital, Bryan M. Fournier Landscaping & Irrigation, U.S. Army, J & F Farms in Derry, Wild Rover Pub, Cabot Creamery Cooperative and Granite State Dairy Promotion.

“We’re very excited to have so many great sponsors and two great local charities all working together with us, and are eager to set up the course at McIntyre,” Shana Hoch, vice president of digital media at The Telegraph and NH.com, and race founder, said.
