Help us recognize our local heroes

For the second year, The Cabinet Press is asking readers to help us to recognize some of our local heroes.

A nominee could be a neighbor who organizes a benefit for a family having financial troubles or someone who helps in an emergency – anyone who goes above and beyond to help others.

They will be honored in a special section that our newspapers – The Cabinet, the Bedford Journal, The Hollis Brookline Journal, and the Merrimack Journal – will publish in July.

Terry Williams, publisher of The Cabinet Press newspapers and The Telegraph of Nashua, said the purpose of the special edition is to “recognize people who go above and beyond their daily lives to lend assistance to others.

To honor such people, we need readers to submit names of those who have acted heroically.

The Cabinet Press newspapers go to about 30,000 households each week, so we expect to receive quite a few nominations.

This year there are eight categories.

Each of the people selected will be highlighted in the July 26 supplement, and one Super Hero, chosen from the final group, will be able to make a $1,000 cash donation to the charity of his or her choice.

All nominations should be received by June 4. Please give your full name and town of the person or persons you want to nominate and explain why you think they deserve to be recognized.

Heroes categories are:

? Community volunteer – A person who has donated their time, or has done something to improve the community.

? Business volunteer – An organization or group of people who have undertaken a project to help others.

? Mentor/coach – A person who has made a dramatic impact in the life of another.

? Emergency response – A person who steps forward during an emergency to help.

? Military – A member of the military, alive or dead, who gave of himself or herself to the benefit of others.

? Youth – A younger member of the community who has found a special way to brighten the day for others.

? Lifetime achievement – A long-standing community member who has consistently and tirelessly stepped forward and exemplified a passion for giving.

? Educator – A teacher, current or retired, who has found ways to inspire students beyond their own expectations.

Send your hero nominations to Susan Clark at sclark@cabinet.com or mail to her at The Cabinet, 17 Executive Drive, Hudson, NH 03051. Include contact information for you and your hero. Also, visit www.cabinet.com and click on Valley Heroes to submit your nomination.
